Bre and I hit Little India and Chinatown today. Little India was decked out in all it's Deepavali finery.
Then to the Little India wet market. Along with the usual fruit and spices, they have an entire stall dedicated only to banana leaves.
Then we saw the sharks!
I tried to ask if it was really a shark. "What kind?" I asked, "What is the name of it?" "The name? Jaws! Rawrrr!" the vendor shouted, picking it up and shaking it at us.
In Chinatown, we wandered by a Hindu Temple, where there was a huge crowd outside.
Squeezing our way in, we were lucky enough to catch the prep for the firewalking ceremony.
No actual firewalking, but lots of pomp and circumstance. And smoke. And sweat. I think the look on the lady in purple says it all.
We stood there for over an hour, watching people walk around and stoke the fire. As usual, the women do not participate and are relegated to watching. I wouldn't complain, this fire was no joke.
The actual fire walkers weren't set to go on until 3am, so the most we got to see was one of the processions. Noisy, and this banging went on the whole time we were there.

What could top a day of (not quite) fire walking? A trip to the Land of the Gods should do it.
