We started the day at Healesville Sanctuary, just in time for the Birds of Prey show.
After the soaring, diving Birds of Prey, the rest of the animals were pretty... relaxed. Here's Ernie the Dingo. Did you know that dingos never bark (they howl), and their personality is more like a cat (aloof and independent) than a dog? Well. Now you do.
And there are the koalas - we never saw them do anything but sleep. So cute, though. Did you know they only eat eucalyptus leaves? Picky. And they noise that they make (not that we heard it) is called a bellow, and is described as "somewhere between a snore and a burp". Probably pretty close to the noises David makes in the morning.
One animal I had never seen before was the Tasmanian Devil. These guys put on a pit of a show, running around and screaming at each other. The one on the right's name is Lucifer, and the one on the left is Storm. I suppose you can't exactly give Tasmanian Devils names like Fluffy and Baby Cakes.
The Red Kangaroos were also a bit sleepy...
And hungry...
There were a lot of other animals there, but unfortunately we were a bit pressed for time for our next stop of the day...
...the wineries!
Because wine is so expensive in Singapore, one of my goals in Australia was to drink as much wine as socially acceptable. Lucky for us, the Yarra Valley is located just outside of Melbourne, and is home to dozens of vineyards. Even though it was winter and there wasn't anything growing...
...the tasting rooms were open for business!
The wine guys were great here, not a bit snobby like the ones in Napa - no one rolled their eyes at me when I asked for a wine with "oomph".
Even though I'm not a swish-and-spit wine taster, after only two wineries we were wobbly enough to call it a day. Thanks Anna and David, for driving! : )
